I am a junior at Oregon State
University. As a freshman I stared as a business major, but the classes were not
all that enjoyable for me. I went undeclared for a year and took many
introductory classes in a variety of subjects and majors. Currently I’ve
settled on Speech Communication. Though I would say that giving speeches are
one of my weaknesses, I enjoy people and feel it will be a good challenge for
me. I have already finished my French minor and have also declared a business
minor. I feel that with these three degrees, it leaves a lot of doors open for
me. I have no idea what I’d like to do when I graduate but I know that whatever
it is, I would like it to involve people and communication. Business is everywhere
in the world and having a French background can help me get in the door. I know
I want to travel either near the end of college or after I graduate. Doing a
study abroad or an internship in France would be ideal. I am also looking into
becoming an Au Pair in France, since I love kids and feel it is one of the best
ways to be fully submerged in the culture and language. Looking on the job side
of things, I have a few ideas floating around in my head but nothing too
pressing just yet.
Outside of school there is a lot I
like to do. I really enjoy sports, in particular volleyball, football and
baseball. Cooking and baking is one my favorite things as well. Making food for others and entertaining is something my mom and I love to do. I also love the outdoors; anything involving nature is so uplifting
and beautiful. Hiking and backpacking through mountains and swimming in icy alpine
lakes can be a difficult, yet fun adventure. I’ve gotten involved in many
organization and activities since becoming a student at OSU. I am a member of
the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and hold the position of Risk Management
chairman. I recently became a member of Order of Omega which is an honors
society for Greek members. I also play volleyball for the Oregon State Club
volleyball team and I try to stay involved in various bible studies and church
groups too. This past summer I work at Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction
City, OR and also for my dad who owns an Insurance Agency for property and casualty.
I am still working for both as much as I can during the school year. I love working
for my dad, especially since family is so important to me. We are very family
oriented and I’m happy how close I am to home at OSU. It helps that my little
brother goes to school here too. Overall I stay very busy throughout the school year,
but I’m generally very organized and staying busy keeps me going and it helps me
to stay focused and on top of everything I need to get done.
